How to use
Apply generously to dry skin before you go out. Warm a little between your fingertips first: it's a thick, zinc-rich cream and spreads more easily when warm. Keep rubbing until it blends in.
Reapply at least every 2 hours, and straight after swimming, towelling or sweating. Avoid the eye area.
For adults and children over 6 months. Keep babies under 6 months out of direct sun.

Why Pure Zinc
Why 25% non-nano zinc?
Zinc oxide is a mineral that protects against both UVA and UVB. 25% is the most UK rules allow in a sunscreen, and it's the only UV filter in Pure Zinc. So there are no chemical filters, and nothing on the list you need to look up.
Non-nano means the zinc particles are bigger than 100 nanometres, the size UK and EU rules use to define nanomaterials.

How to apply
Mineral sunscreen, without the white.
Pure Zinc is thick because it's packed with zinc. These four steps make it go on easily and blend in.

Warm it up
Squeeze a little onto your fingertips and rub them together for a few seconds. Warm zinc spreads much more easily.

Be generous
The NHS suggests about 2 teaspoons for your head, arms and neck, and 2 tablespoons for your whole body in swimwear.

Rub until it blends
Keep going until the white disappears. Iron oxides give it a light tint, so it blends in rather than sitting on top.

What makes Pure Zinc reef safe?
Its only UV filter is 25% non-nano zinc oxide. It contains none of the chemical UV filters most often linked with coral reef damage, such as oxybenzone and octinoxate. There's no official reef safe test, so that's exactly what we mean when we say it.
Is it safe for babies and children?
Yes, from 6 months old. Keep babies under 6 months out of direct sun. For kids, Kids SPF 50 is fragrance free and comes in an easy pump, and Baby SPF 30 is our gentlest formula.
Will it leave a white cast?
It's a thick, zinc-rich cream, so it can look white at first. Warm a little between your fingertips and keep rubbing: mineral iron oxides in the formula help it blend in. Most people find it rubs in clear; on deeper skin tones a light sheen can stay.
Can I use it on my face and body?
Yes. Pure Zinc is made for both, and lots of people use it as their one sunscreen for everything. The 240g family tube has the lowest price per 100g if you use it all over.
What does non-nano zinc oxide mean?

What is mineral sunscreen?
Mineral sunscreen uses a mineral UV filter, usually zinc oxide or titanium dioxide, instead of synthetic chemical filters. Zinc oxide protects against both UVA and UVB on its own, which is why it's the only UV filter in our Pure Zinc range.
You'll also hear it called physical sunscreen, natural sunscreen or zinc sun cream.
Mineral vs chemical sunscreen
Chemical sunscreens use synthetic UV filters such as octocrylene, avobenzone or octinoxate, often several at once to cover UVA and UVB. They tend to be thinner and quicker to rub in.
Mineral sunscreens use zinc oxide or titanium dioxide. They're usually thicker, take a little longer to blend, and suit people who want to avoid chemical filters, including many people with sensitive skin.
What does non-nano mean?
Nano refers to particle size. UK and EU rules define a nanomaterial as particles between 1 and 100 nanometres. Non-nano zinc oxide is made of larger particles that sit on the surface of your skin. Every product in our Pure Zinc range uses non-nano zinc oxide.
Why 25% zinc oxide?
The UK allows up to 25% zinc oxide in a sunscreen. Pure Zinc uses the full 25%, which is how it reaches SPF 50 with broad spectrum UVA and UVB protection without adding any chemical filters.
Is mineral sunscreen reef safe?
Some chemical UV filters, especially oxybenzone and octinoxate, have been linked with harm to coral reefs, and places like Hawaii have banned them. Pure Zinc contains neither, and zinc oxide is its only UV filter. There's no official reef safe certification, so check the ingredients of any sunscreen that says it.
How to wear mineral sunscreen without a white cast
Warm a little between your fingertips before you apply it. Work in small areas, and keep rubbing until the white disappears. Applying to slightly damp skin after moisturiser helps too. Pure Zinc contains mineral iron oxides, which give it a light tint so it blends in more easily.
How much sunscreen do you need?
Most people use about half the amount they need. NHS advice suggests around 2 teaspoons for your head, arms and neck, and 2 tablespoons for your whole body if you're wearing a swimming costume. Reapply at least every 2 hours and straight after swimming or towelling.
Is mineral sun cream good for sensitive skin?
Many people with sensitive skin prefer mineral sun cream because it avoids chemical UV filters, and the National Eczema Society notes that many people with eczema find mineral sunscreens less irritating. Pure Zinc also has no parabens or added fragrance. Patch test first if your skin reacts easily.
Choosing SPF and UVA protection in the UK
The NHS recommends a sunscreen with SPF 30 or more and at least 4-star UVA protection, or the UVA circle logo. SPF measures protection from UVB, the rays that cause sunburn. UVA rays go deeper and cause skin ageing. A broad spectrum sunscreen like Pure Zinc SPF 50 protects against both.
